Lymph Drainage

Manual lymph drainage is a specialized form of medical massage in which the transport of lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic vessels is stimulated using gentle hand techniques. It is an essential component of Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT) for treating patients with lymphedema and lipedema. It is also utilized after major orthopedic injuries or surgeries to reduce symptoms such as swelling and pain.

First and foremost, manual lymph drainage decongests affected tissue and accelerates lymphatic flow. The arms and legs are most commonly affected; however, the trunk or head and neck areas can also develop lymphedema. Manual lymph drainage offers additional positive effects: thanks to the smooth, gentle movements, patients frequently find the treatment soothing and deeply relaxing.

Manual Lymph Drainage During Pregnancy

Manual lymph drainage is a gentle therapeutic method. When medically indicated, it can generally be performed safely during pregnancy. The therapist adapts the treatment specifically to the pregnancy, avoiding deep abdominal techniques.
